Future CFO Course Overview

The Future CFO course is a comprehensive nine-module development program, designed and delivered by senior level finance leaders within a collaborative peer group format. We guide you through the whole journey from the back office to the boardroom.

Ideal for those aspiring to become a Chief Financial Officer within the next five years, Future CFO also caters to those who are currently performing the number one role in startups and scaleup companies. Unlike traditional business schools, our unique focus is solely on cultivating exceptional CFO talent, with hundreds of Aspiring CFOs having already completing the program, we are dedicated to empowering the next generation of finance leaders.

Identify your skills gaps

Join your Module 1 launch event to meet your CFO mentors and peer group buddies. Receive a guided tour of your CFO Readiness Toolkit and online course lessons. Your Module 1 lessons outline the typical roles and responsibilities of a Chief Financial Officer, including potential variations across different businesses. Participants work through guidance narratives and videos to rate yourself across each competency area within your CFO Readiness Toolkit.

Create your tailored development plan

During your Module 2 session, our CFO mentors will help prioritize your action plans against your existing role and future career aspirations. You will receive a group mentoring session to identify and overcome your biggest personal challenges towards obtaining your dream CFO role. This includes impactful remedies, proven methodologies, and practical recommendations that will form the basis of your tailored development plan.

Fast track your development

Within Module 3, participants create objectives, document actions, and specify deadlines to address each identified development area within your GrowCFO Competency Framework. Address each of your priority development areas through regular prompts inside GrowCFO’s automated Learning Center. Participants will be notified of relevant courses, video recordings and blogs. You will also be invited to attend live webinar events and listen to valuable podcasts.

04

Build your own brand

During this module, participants will gain valuable insights to help develop your profile and build your personal brand. These include top tips for writing your CV, building your LinkedIn brand and reviewing your overall digital profile. You will be invited to join regular webinars and will be prompted to complete a range of online lessons to transform you from being one of the crowd into the stand out candidate.

This module will help you to win your dream job in order to take you through the journey from being a “CFO ready” candidate to becoming a newly-appointed CFO. During this module, participants will identify potential routes into a new CFO role, learn different ways to identify new opportunities, understand how to position yourself for internal promotion and hear top tips for passing the external hire recruitment process.

Take over the finance function

Participants will study how to take over the finance function to make the journey from inheriting the finance function towards creating a blueprint for your own team. You will learn how to determine your finance function objectives, which type of finance function would best suit your company, how to create a blueprint for your future finance function and what factors to consider when selecting your optimal team.

Create your identity – the first 100 days

This module is designed to help you to create your identity by building your 100-day plan to make the journey from your first day as the CFO to becoming an impactful CFO within your organization. During this module, participants will learn the key priorities when starting your new CFO role, the importance of a 100-day plan, how to implement your plan and top tips for making a big impact early on!

The Future CFO course offers the following activities during a 12-month period:

1. Competency Framework: Rank yourself against the 45 CFO skills within The GrowCFO Competency Framework.
2. Future CFO On-Demand Video Course: Complete the nine Future CFO program online modules.
3. Competency Workshops: Access on-demand workshops led by GrowCFO’s professional mentors to address your biggest skills gaps.
4. Competency Modules: Complete a selection of 45 online courses to address priority areas identified in your Competency Framework.

5. Simulators: Access a comprehensive suite of dynamic simulators crafted to empower yourself at every stage of the business life cycle. 

6. Learning Plan: Document your quarterly progress against your GrowCFO learning plan for at least 12 months.
7. Virtual Boardroom: Play the role of the CFO in a live boardroom discussion chaired by a professional mentor to navigate challenging real-life case studies.
8. Professional Mentoring: Six months of one-to-one professional mentoring from an experienced CFO with at least ten years of board-level experience (this is optional and should be purchased separately).

Graduating participants will receive a signed GrowCFO certificate to showcase within your CV and LinkedIn profile. This clearly demonstrates your commitment towards developing your skills and growing your network, making you a successful CFO.

FAQs

All program payments must be made directly to GrowCFO through our company website growcfo.net/future-cfo or through GrowCFO company invoices. GrowCFO accepts no liability for any payments made to any other parties, including regional leaders and program facilitators.

While attending live sessions is recommended for optimal training experience, we understand that sometimes unexpected situations may arise. If you are unable to attend a live session, a recording of the session will be made available to you. However, please note that for certain sessions, you may still be required to submit preparatory work even if you are unable to attend the live session, so please review the course material carefully and make arrangements accordingly to ensure you can keep up with the program requirements.

The live online workshops run on a monthly basis lasting two hours each. There is no preparation required, except around 30 minutes for the Module 1 workshop.

At GrowCFO, we pride ourselves on building strong and supportive cohorts for each intake. Once a participant has committed to a cohort, we do not offer a refund, to ensure a strong community of like-minded individuals who will serve as a valuable support network throughout the training journey is built.
There is no expected knowledge or preparation in advance of the program, although most people find it beneficial to register for a Preview Event in advance, (this is not compulsory). There is a bonus one-hour introductory group session prior to the Module 1 workshop for people to meet the program delivery team and start building relationships with their cohort group members.

Yes, the Future CFO program counts for 40 hours of CPE and you will be issued a certificate on completion.
